TAMPIN® BRAND
MACHINE SCREW ANCHOR
Description:
The open bottom nut Tampin® Machine Screw Anchor is made up of an
antimonial lead alloy sleeve and a zinc alloy (Zamak 5) internally threaded
cone with a series of integral ribs, serrations, or lugs. The ribs or
serrations prevent the cone shaped nut from turning in the sleeve. All
bolt size anchors, except the 3/4" size, are preassembled into a single
unit, self-contained anchor. All units are made of 100% rust proof material.
(The 3/4" bolt size is sometimes furnished as three separate units,
a cone shaped nut and two sleeves. The volume of lead alloy required
for the proper installation of this bolt size is broken into two units
to ensure the ease and thoroughness of caulking the nut into the concrete
hole.) Tampin® anchors are also available in select sizes with a
brass cone for the storm shutter industry.
Potential Uses:
Storm Shutters
Conduit Clips
Pipe Hangers & Straps
Electrical Switch Gear
Air Conditioning Units
Air Duct Hangers
Temperature Control Tubes
Conveyor Systems
Machinery
Metal Window Sashes
Handrails
Description:
The closed bottom nut Tampin® anchor is an improved redesign
of the original. The bottom of the threaded hole in the cone shaped
nut is closed by a thin section of metal. This further identifies
the proper end of the anchor to be inserted first into the hole
in the concrete. It makes it impossible to fasten an object to the
anchor if a workman has mistakenly installed the anchor wrong end
out. It also prevents concrete dust or cutting that might remain
in the hole from working up into and fouling the anchor threads
during installation.
Potential Uses:
Same as open bottom plus
Tile and marble applications
Determining Anchor Spacing:
The forces on a Tampin® Machine Screw Anchor are transferred to
the material that it is installed in. If the anchors are installed too
close together, it can cause an interaction of the forces, thus reducing
the holding power of the anchor. As a rule of thumb, the expansion industry
has established a minimum standard of ten (10) anchor diameters for
spacing between anchors and five (5) anchor diameters from the edge.
When vibration or sudden impact are part of the load condition, spacing
between anchors should be increased.
Note: All weights and
load conditions described or referenced in this material were determined
under laboratory conditions. Material and installation conditions
vary in the field. To determine your holding factors, test product
in actual conditions and materials.
Meets G.S.A. Specification FF-S-325, Group II, Type 2, Classes 1
Suggested safe working load is always one-fourth
(1/4) the average maximum proof test load

6-32, 8-32, 10-32, and 12-24 also available but there is
no test data available for these sizes. All testing was performed by Star
Anchors and Fasteners. Interstate Screw makes no warranty as to the accuracy
or validity of these test results. These results were originally published

Determining Correct Bolt Length:
Installation:
Drill hole of recommended diameter into the
concrete to a depth equal to the length of the anchor. Place
Tampin® anchor, base end of the conical nut first, into
the hole. The anchor should be flush or slightly deeper than
the surface of the concrete. A deeper hole should be used when
making attachments to poor masonry or when additional holding
power is needed.
Position the pilot of the Tampin® Setting
Tool into the threaded bore of the anchor and press firmly against
the lead alloy sleeve of the anchor. Using a hand hammer, strike
the end of the setting tool with repeated sharp blows. Anchoring
is complete when the lead alloy sleeve cannot be further tamped
or caulked down around the conical nut.
Position the object to be fastened over the
anchor and bolt into place. The length of the screw or bolt
should equal the thickness of the material being fastened, plus
the additional length required to ensure that the screw engages
a major portion of the internal threads of the anchor.
